Although domestic pork prices have fallen significantly recently, pork prices are still high compared to normal years, and the substitution of poultry and other products for pork products is still in place, with imports of most meat products remaining significantly higher in 2021 than in normal years. At the same time, affected by the new crown epidemic, African swine fever and bird flu, the global meat supply is tight, prices rise overall, for countries that rely on imports, food supply and price pressure are greater.

In January-February 2021, China's pork imports totaled 689300 tons, up 26.73 percent year-on-year. Among them, China's imports accounted for the top three countries are: Spain 229300 tons, the United States 80500 tons, Brazil 76200 tons. Although international meat prices have risen, import costs have also risen due to the impact of epidemic prevention, but overall pork imports are still profitable, January-February 2021, regardless of total imports or a single month, are higher than the same period in previous years.

In January-February 2021, China's poultry imports totaled 231100 tons, up 42.74 percent year-on-year. Among them, China's imports accounted for the top three countries are: the United States 93900 tons, Brazil 91000 tons, Russia 15600 tons. Since last winter, the bird flu epidemic has been serious in South Korea, Japan and other countries around Europe and China. First, South Korea fried chicken shops cut off their supply due to the bird flu epidemic, and then Japanese egg prices soared by 80% due to bird flu. Other countries have also experienced varying degrees of increase in the price of meat and poultry products and tight supply due to the bird flu epidemic. If the bird flu continues to break out on a large scale, it will certainly affect the import of breeding poultry and poultry meat in China, and further push up the prices of domestic meat and egg poultry products.

In January-February 2021, China's beef imports totaled 402300 tons, up 35.41 percent year-on-year. China's imports accounted for the top three countries are: Argentina 91500 tons, Brazil 161800 tons, Uruguay 97700 tons. On the whole, my country's beef imports are also relatively large, and imports are second only to pork imports. In the past two years, affected by the sharp rise in pork prices, imports have increased significantly.

In January-February 2021, China's mutton imports totaled 49100 tons, down 22.31 percent year-on-year. The top three countries in China's imports are 27700 tons in the new southwest, 18300 tons in Australia and 2800 tons in Uruguay. The consumption of mutton by Chinese residents is small, the import volume is not large, and the impact of rising pork prices on mutton imports is not obvious.

Overall, China's total meat imports in January-February 2021 are still huge, and pig prices will remain higher than normal years this year, and meat imports will continue to remain high.
