Management Protocol for Hepatopancreas Issues During the Larval Stage of Whiteleg Shrimp
2026-06-05
Problem Overview:
During the early stages of shrimp farming, the hepatopancreas and digestive–absorptive functions are still developing; immune competence, stress resistance, and digestive–absorptive capacity remain relatively weak. As a result, the shrimp are highly susceptible to stressors and pathogenic infections triggered by weather fluctuations, environmental changes, bacterial contamination, or feed transitions, leading to symptoms such as discoloration of the hepatopancreas—pale, reddish, yellowish, or whitish—along with blurred outlines, enlargement, atrophy, and empty intestines and stomachs.

- Environmental stress:
1. Root Cause Analysis:
The larval stage is a critical period for the development of shrimp larvae’s hepatopancreas and digestive system. When external environmental conditions are unstable, their stress response is pronounced, often leading to symptoms such as blurred margins, hepatopancreatic enlargement, and abnormal pigmentation.

2. Approach to handling:
1. Improve the health of the hepatopancreas and intestines;
2. Strengthen the body and enhance stress resistance.
3. Handling Plan:
Gan Dan Bei Jian + Aquatic Nano Gold Vitamins + Enzyme-Enhanced Prebiotics. Mix 40–80 jin of this formulation per batch and use for 3–5 days.

- Vibrio Infection:
1. Root Cause Analysis:
The larval stage is a critical period for the development of the hepatopancreas and lymphoid organs, during which immune defenses are relatively weak, making shrimp highly susceptible to Vibrio infections. This can lead to abnormal pigmentation, enlargement or atrophy of the hepatopancreas, as well as conditions such as empty intestines, empty stomachs, and acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease.

- Approach:
1. Reduce the population of Vibrio bacteria in the aquaculture environment;
2. Influencing the growth and reproduction of Vibrio through biological competition
3. Enhance the body’s immune function.

3. Handling Plan:
① For water with low organic matter, apply Zhongren Gold Iodine externally at 1–2 ppm; for water with moderate to high organic matter, apply Weidelili dry‑spread at 1–2 ppm. If the water has a noticeable concentration of organic matter, use potassium peroxymonosulfate compound effervescent tablets (national standard 50%) dry‑spread at 1–2 ppm. Six hours later, supplement with probiotics (concentrated spore‑based milk) applied externally at 3–4 ppm.
② Apply Arcili Jing at a rate of 2 mu per meter. Mix with 40 jin of feed and administer for 3–5 consecutive days.
③ Life‑Essence Plus aquaculture‑specific multivitamin: mix 40–80 jin of the product per batch into the feed, and administer continuously for 3–5 days.
