Measures for Addressing Parasitic and Bacterial Infections in Silver Carp Fry
2026-06-05
As water temperatures gradually rise, feed input in fish ponds increases, accompanied by a corresponding buildup of uneaten feed and fish excrement. This creates favorable conditions for pathogenic microorganisms and parasitic infections, both of which can lead to disease and mortality in silver carp.

Date: August 5, 2024
Location: Baota Lake Village, Yangxin County
Area: 5 mu; average water depth: 1.5 meters
Cultured species: Silver carp
I. Situation Description
On the first day, a small number of dead fish were observed along the pond’s edge, with some individuals swimming alone and separated from the school; their body surfaces and tails bore white, mold‑like lesions. On the second and third days, mass mortalities continued. Microscopic examination of the fry’s gill filaments revealed the presence of wheel mites, while microscopic analysis of the body surface showed an especially high abundance of these parasites.
II. Remedial Measures
On the first day of application, use the wheel‑ring formulation at a rate of 2–2.5 mu per bag for insect control; it can be applied continuously 1–2 times (during the fry stage, it can be used at 4–5 mu per bag).
On the second day, use Zhongren Gold Iodine plus Double-Yellow Essence at a rate of 5 mu per bottle to disinfect the entire pond.

III. Feedback on Results
The number of newly dead fish decreased one day after disinfection; two days later, microscopic examination of the fish body surface and gill filaments revealed a substantial reduction in parasites, and the fish body surface returned to normal.
